What are the general aims of this course?
The general aims of the course are that learners will be able to:

  • Understand database architecture
  • Understand and use systematic data analysis techniques
  • Design, implement and maintain a Relational Database

What is the duration of the course?
The course is 3 days long including an exam.

Where is the course?
The course will be run in Dublin

What qualification do I get from this course?
You get a FETAC level 6 award in Relational Databases

How is the course assessed?
The course is assessed as follows:

  • Summary Project 60%
  • Written Examination 40%

What does the project consist of?
The project must include a project report describing the design of the database and a working implementation. Candidates should design and implement a database to solve a given set of requirements using a relational database system. The set of requirements must include:

  • The specification of a user interface
  • A problem which will require a minimum of three tables
  • Recommendations for specific reports based on multiple tables

What is the duration of the exam?
2 hours

What is the format of the exam?

  • Format Section A (40 marks) One question based on all units.
  • Section B (60 marks) Three structured questions. Two questions to be answered. All questions carry equal marks.
