How do I access this
course?
You need a username and password to access the course.
This will be supplied to you once your registration has
been processed.
What entry level qualifications
do I need to do this course?
You need a level 6 Advanced Certificate in Craft or Construction
or other relevant discipline, or equivalent qualifications
and relevant life and work experiences.
What level of IT skills
do I need to do this course?
You need to be comfortable using computers. At a minimum
you need to be knowledgeable of basic computer applications
such as Word and Excel, capable of browsing the Internet
and using email.
How is the course assessed?
Exam 70%
Assignments 30%

There will be 3 assignments that will
be made available during this course. Each assignment
counts for 10% of the total marks.

Part 1 - 15 short answer questions - 1 hour (30%)
Part 2 - BER Assessment - 1 hour 30 minutes (25%)
Part 3 - Improvements section - 30 minutes (15%)
When can I sit the exam?
You can sit the exam when you have successfully completed
the course.
What are the criteria
for successfully completing the course?
You must do the following:
- Submit the three assignments
- Complete all course content
- Post at least one contribution to the discussion
boards at the end of each module
- Complete the course evaluation survey and select
your preferred location for the exam
When I have successfully
completed the course, how will I know when and where
my exam is on?
When you request course completion, you will be given
the option to choose your preferred exam location. Once
your course completion is processed we will make contact
with you to confirm your exam date.
Is it an open book exam?
Yes, you may bring whatever reference materials you wish
to use into the exam.
Do I need broadband?
Yes we would recommend it. You can access the course with
dial-up but some of the media files and reference files
are quite large so they will download very slowly.
How is the course structured?
The course is divided into five modules, we recommend
that you progress through the modules in sequence.
How much time does it
take to do the course?
It will depend on your previous knowledge, understanding
of the concepts etc. We estimate that it will take on
average 30 to 50 hours to complete the course successfully.
How will I know how
much time I have spent on the course?
The system will automatically track your time online,
you can also manually input the time you spend offline
(reading, preparing discussion responses etc). You can
access your time record at any stage, it is located at
the end of module 5.
From the date I start,
how much time do I have to complete the course?
We recommend that from starting date you attempt to complete
the course in one month, you must complete it within two
months.
Do the learners have
a tutor?
Yes, experienced tutors have been appointed to facilitate
the course learners. You can contact the tutor through
the discussion board or directly by email. The tutors
will make regular contributions to the discussion boards.
How can I communicate
with other learners?
The discussion boards offer an excellent opportunity
for learners to build up a community of expertise, to
help and support each other as you progress through
the course and prepare for the exam.
What is the cancellation policy
for CPD College with regard to course registration?
Candidates may cancel their course registration any
time up to the payment of course fees. Once course fees
are paid they are non-refundable.
What do I need to do
to register as an assessor?
The criteria for qualification as an assessor are as follows:
- If you have obtained a mark of 70% or higher and
have received your award from FETAC you can proceed
to register with SEI.
- Send an application form directly to SEI. Assessors
will also be required to pay the registration fee
of €1,000 by direct debit mandate.
- An annual fee of €500 will be charged by SEI
for you to remain on their list of registered assessors.
- You will also be required to complete a direct
debit mandate which is in respect of a €25 charge
for every BER cert issued by SEI.
- The registration fee of €1,000 and subsequent
renewals will also be made through the assessor/employers
direct debit mandate.
- SEI state “On successful completion of a BER
training course, candidates will be awarded a Level
6 Certificate. These certificates are awarded by the
universities, the institutes of technology, HETAC
or FETAC. SEI will only register applicants who have
been fully certified by the relevant certification
body.”
Please note that FETAC’s
assessments processing are only carried out twice per
year – in May & November.
Closing date for Entries (exam results) for
Winter Assessments is 8th November and for Summer Assessments
is 14th May. Statement of results and awarding process
commences on 8th January for the Winter assessment and
25th July for the Summer assessment period.
