This course looks at how children learn to read and how phonics underpins this process. You will be introduced to the basics of phonics teaching and successful approaches that can be utilised. Programmes that utilise the synthetic phonics approach are examined along with the links between phonics and spelling. You will also become familiar with the findings of some major recent reports into how children learn to read.
