The Internet as an Educational Tool: Exploring the true potential of the internet as a rich resource to support classroom teaching.
 
 
 


In this self-paced on-line course participants will explore ‘The Net as an Interactive Tool for the Classroom’. Participants will be introduced to and explore ‘WebQuests on the Net’, appreciate that the Net is a Treasure Trove of Support Materials for Maths and Literacy, will be introduced to the fantastic resources available on the Internet to support the delivery of the SESE curriculum and will be directed to the many internet based resources for Art, Music and P.E. lesson planning and delivery.

The on-line format of the course enables you to study when and where you want to learn. Content is divided into 5 modules which you can complete in any order between July 1st and August 27th 2010.

Participants are encouraged to interact with one another using the communication tools (forum, chat, e-mail) provided by the CPD College learning system. Active facilitation throughout the course provides expert interaction, guidance and feedback for all participants. Assignments and questions which call for critical reflection, self-analysis and a reasoned response punctuate this highly interactive web based course.

On completion of the course the participant will be presented with their own time record, excercise content and approval by the course facilitator as their CPD record to keep.

   Learning outcomes:  
Through engagement with the course content and through the sharing of successful internet strategies for the integration of I.C.T. into classroom teaching, we anticipate that the knowledge and insights gained by participants will positively impact on their classroom teaching in the coming year. Teachers will appreciate the internet as a resource and will know how to find and apply the best internet resources in their teaching.
 
 
   Modules:  
01 - Exploring ‘The Net as an Interactive Tool for the Classroom’ and critical perspectives on internet use in the classroom. Refining internet searching techniques and appreciate the supports that the internet provides to teaching.
02 - In this module, course participants will be introduced to and explore ‘WebQuests on the Net’, developing an appreciation of what constitutes a webquest, know how they are created, examine some critical perspectives in relation to webquests and understand how to create their own webquests in subject areas.
03 - The Net is a Treasure Trove of Support for Maths and Literacy and participants will be given ample opportunity to engage with the best the web has to offer the teaching of these two most important subjects.
04 - In this module teachers will be introduced to the fantastic resources available on the Internet to support the delivery of the SESE curriculum and will have a wealth of resources to integrate into next year’s SESE programme.
05 - Participants will be directed to the many internet based resources for Art, Music and P.E. lesson planning and delivery. Teachers will appreciate how the dynamic nature of the available audio visual internet material can deliver a real impetus to most lessons and should be tapped for better teaching and improved learning.
