Outdoor & Environmental Education: The wealth of teaching & learning that can take place within the context of the local environment

In this self-paced on-line course participants will rediscover the learning opportunities that exist in the plant, animal, bird and insect life of the school grounds & local environment. They will consider, itemise and explore for learning opportunities the natural environmental features of their local area – inside and outside the school grounds.

We will engage with the broad range of Environmental Awareness and Care issues that need to be studied and promoted among the school community. Thereafter participating teachers will have a chance to think about & explore their locality through the lens of past, present and future time.

There will be a range of information to assist teachers in exploring with children the properties and characteristics of materials from a recycling perspective, with a particular emphasis on the Green Schools Programme.

The on-line format of the course enables you to study when and where you want to learn. Content is divided into 5 modules which you can complete in any order between July 1st and August 27th 2010.

Participants are encouraged to interact with one another using the communication tools (forum, chat, e-mail) provided by the CPD College learning system. Active facilitation throughout the course provides expert interaction, guidance and feedback for all participants. Assignments and questions which call for critical reflection, self-analysis and a reasoned response punctuate this highly interactive web based course.

On completion of the course the participant will be presented with their own time record, excercise content and approval by the course facilitator as their CPD record to keep.
