Looking at infant Education: The central role of play in the Infant Education programme & approaches to early literacy & mathematics.

In this self-paced on-line course we seek to understand the nature and place of creative play in the infant classroom. We will thereafter explore the teaching and learning approaches best suited to infant education, followed by a look at the building blocks of an effective literacy environment. We will also look in detail at how children learn to read and write as an essential component to a child’s success in school. Finally we consider approaches and strategies for the teaching of the strands and strand units of the infant maths programme.

The on-line format of the course enables you to study when and where you want to learn. Content is divided into 5 modules which you can complete in any order between July 1st and August 27th 2010.

Participants are encouraged to interact with one another using the communication tools (forum, chat, e-mail) provided by the CPD College learning system. Active facilitation throughout the course provides expert interaction, guidance and feedback for all participants. Assignments and questions which call for critical reflection, self-analysis and a reasoned response punctuate this highly interactive web based course.

On completion of the course the participant will be presented with their own time record, excercise content and approval by the course facilitator as their CPD record to keep.
